Sibling rivalry goes from quiet annoyance to drunken violence and
strangulation in Sam Shepard's, Obie Award-winning, True West.
Directed by David Sher and produced by Denise Reid, the Elden Street Players
open the 2001-2002 Season with this intense comedy-drama.
In the tidy Southern California kitchen of their mother, Austin (Arron
Rothbart), a successful screenwriter, is diligently preparing his latest
artistic endeavor, when in crashes Lee (William Aitken), his desert rat
brother, who sustains himself by robbing suburban homes of TV sets and
other "electric devices." In no time, Lee is able to
persuade Hollywood agent Saul Kimmer (Jake Call) to abandon Austin's story
for his own "true story" about the West. The brothers
battle each other for control and respect, while their mother's kitchen
sustains most of the damage. When Mom (Mary Ann Hall) returns from
her tour of Alaska, she finds her house, and her sons, in shambles.
Find out which brother triumphs when the Elden Street Players proudly
present Sam Shepard's True West.
