The Princess and the Pea rounds out one of the most ambitious
seasons for The ESP Theatre for Young Audiences, following on the
success of Scrooge, Rumplestiltskin and Something
Different.
Herndon resident Barbara D. Carpenter directs this magical fairytale of
true identities and true love where the prince’s best friend is a troll, the
queen speaks only in rhymes and the legume-challenged heroine HATES princes!
There are ghosts in the castle tower and hidden treasures only a troll can
sniff out. Only a magic book from Cathay and a series of three tests can
sort out the twists and turns of this tale!
Set Designer Michael Sherman and Patti Chisolm, scenic artist, have
created a castle interior that will enchant children and adults alike. From
the princess’ bed with its 20 colorful mattresses to the coat of arms
displayed above the fireplace and its burning logs, the audience will
delight in this castle’s trappings.
Cast members Jay Daily, Leah Daily, Pat McInerney and David Segal are
newcomers to ESP. Richard Durkin, another Herndon resident, appeared in
Something Different this spring and Kathryn M. Brais directed
Rumplestiltskin. Carpenter, who made her ESP stage debut in
Rumplestiltskin, will return next season to direct The Reluctant
Dragon.
